After midnight, sections of southern West Bengal experienced intense rain and strong winds as the powerful cyclonic storm Dana continued to make landfall along the Odisha coast.The strong cyclonic storm is currently centred over northern coastal Odisha, north-northwest of Dhamra, and north-northwest of the Hablikhati Nature Camp (Bhitarkanika), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The back part of the cyclone is heading onshore as the landfall process continues. It is anticipated that this process will last for the next one to two hours.

Cyclone Dana Strikes Odisha

On Friday morning, October 25, Cyclone Dana made landfall in the Indian state of Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The landfall process is anticipated to last until the morning, according to the IMD.

It is roughly 50 km northeast of Paradip, 40 km south-southeast of Dhamra, and 160 km southwest of Sagar Island, West Bengal. Its coordinates are latitude 20.5°N and longitude 87.1°E.

Within the next three to four hours, Cyclone Dana is expected to move north-northwest and traverse the shores of West Bengal and northern Odisha between Puri and Sagar Island, near Bhitarkanika and Dhamra (Odisha), according to the IMD. With gusts as high as 120 km/h, wind speeds are predicted to be between 100 and 110 km/h.

Along with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed Odisha’s readiness for Cyclone Dana on Thursday and promised full central help.

 National Disaster Response Force

An official statement claims that Odisha has prepared extensively to handle the consequences of the storm. More than 362,000 people have been evacuated from areas at risk by the state, including 3,654 pregnant women who have been sent to neighbouring hospitals and 5,209 cyclone shelters.

In addition, 220 firefighting units, 51 teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and 19 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been sent out to respond to emergencies.
